POPULATION FLUCTUATION OF SUCKING INSECTS IN IRRIGATED AND NON-IRRIGATED COTTON CROPS

چکیده

In the cotton crop (Gossypium hirsutum L.), there is a complexity of pests that appear systematically, thus significantly reducing yield; and their population fluctuation strongly influenced by meteorological conditions result in greater or lesser density these insects. Thus, this work aimed to evaluate insect with sucking feeding behavior an area without irrigation plant under second-harvest conditions. The experiment was developed at State University Maringá - Campus Umuarama. experimental area, grid meshes 10 × m were demarcated, forming plots 100 m², resulting total 64 points irrigated 42 non-irrigated area. sampling demarcated center each where three randomly selected plants sampled. Samplings carried out weekly, from 37 122 days after emergence (DAE) cotton, examining aerial part plant, observe presence aphids (Aphis gossypii), thrips (Frankliniella schultzei), whitefly (Bemisia tabaci). provided highest peaks whiteflies thrips. On other hand, had higher incidence aphids. However, increase ladybugs, reduced significantly, showing efficiency importance control natural predators.

Malaria and Irrigated Crops, Accra, Ghana

We investigated the prevalence of malaria and associated risk factors in children living in urban Ghana. Malaria prevalence was associated with low hemoglobin concentration, low socioeconomic status, and higher age. Our findings indicate that African urban poor are seriously affected by malaria and that irrigated agriculture may increase this risk.

Weed Control with Cover Crops in Irrigated Potatoes

Field experiments at Oakes, ND, USA in 2010 and Carrington, ND, USA in 2011 were conducted to evaluate the potential for cover crops grown in the Northern Great Plains, USA in order to reduce weed emergence and density in irrigated potatoes. Treatments included five cover crop treatments and three cover crop termination treatments. Termination of cover crops was done with glyphosate, disk-till,...

Lint yield and seed quality response of drip irrigated cotton under various levels of water

Restricted water resources are a limiting factor for irrigation applications throughout the world. The effects of irrigation regimes (amount) on cotton lint yield are known, but there is little information on the effect of irrigation regimes on seed quality of cotton. In this study, the effects of deficit irrigation after the onset of flowering on lint yield and seed quality of cotton (Gossypiu...

Soil nitrate testing supports nitrogen management in irrigated annual crops

Soil nitrate (NO3) tests are an integral part of nutrient management in annual crops. They help growers make field-specific nitrogen (N) fertilization decisions, use N more efficiently and, if necessary, comply with California’s Irrigated Lands Regulatory Program, which requires an N management plan and an estimate of soil NO3 from most growers. As NO3 is easily leached into deeper soil layers ...
